Team Secret wins DreamLeague S13, JerAx retires

Team Secret’s return to Dota showed no signs of weakness as they defeat Evil Geniuses 3-2 in the Grand Finals of DreamLeague Season 13, The Leipzig Major. They earn themselves a spot at this year The International and 300k.

This may be the second tournament for the team, but it’s the first with the official squad and many analyst and fans had doubts on Lasse “MATUMBAMAN” Urpalainen when he first joined and when Team Secret had a rocky tournament at the ONE Esports Dota 2 World Pro Invitational in Singapore.

Today they he silenced all his critics, he went 37-16-26 in five games against Evil Geniuses. In the last two games he was the primary focus as he helped his team to the first major win of the season.

Team Secret had an impressive run at DreamLeague, they were the top team in their group and they only dropped three games en route to the title. Their biggest scare besides fighting EG, was their series against Fnatic, they were very close to being knocked into the lower bracket. Fnatic almost 2-0 Team Secret and that was mostly on the mistakes of Team Secret, but in the end, Secret was able to close out the games.

On Championship Sunday also marked a change in the upcoming OG roster. Jesse “jerAx” Vainikka announced his retirement and in his statement, he notes that he wants to pursue other creative ventures. He said he doesn’t see the game the same way as he did before.

I have no willingness nor passion to play Dota 2 anymore.

Right after the finals, Valve and Icefrog also released patch 7.24, the biggest change is the removal of shrines which were introduced back in 7.00. They also added a dedicated slot for neutral items and limiting one active per hero.

Other stores form this week:

Geek Fam replaces Kim “DuBu” Doo-young with Matthew “Whitemon” Filemon in the support position. In Europe, Ninjas in Pyjamas will be replacing their carry player, Nico “Gunnar” Lopez and they will be holding tryouts before and perhaps during the next set of qualifiers.

To end, it’s with heavy hearts that we learn the passing of NBA legend, Kobe Bryant. His helicopter crashed this morning in Los Angeles, he and his daughter Gianna and seven others were found deceased.

Rest in Peace.
