ESL One Birmingham 2020 Champions and other DotA news

All ESL One Birmingham region has officially ended and to much of the fans delight the winners were are predictable.

Southeast Asia was the first to begin and they crowned their winner a week ago. Fnatic ousted Boom Esports 3-1 and Boom had the better group stages with a 4-1 record, while Fnatic had a 3-2 record and narrowly missed the upper bracket.

China had two groups, PSG.LGD the eventual winner was 3-0 in group A and CDEC Gaming was also 3-0 in group B, but they lost in the quickly. It was fun to see LGD win again; however, this may not last because LGD got their offlane, Ren “eLeVeN” Yangwei on a loan. Time to tell if they will eventually pay for the transfer.

In the Americas, it was similar to the SEA region, the top team did not win the whole tournament. CR4ZY had an amazing run in the group stages but faltered twice against Quincy Crew who they did beat in the groups. Evil Geniuses are still running with two stand-ins while their two missing players are in their respective countries.

For Europe, Team Secret was no doubt the favourite to win the entire thing and they did. However, Alliance came out of nowhere and cleaned up the Upper Bracket, knocking Secret and Virtus.pro Prodigy into the lower bracket.

Sending Team Secret into the lower bracket did bring us the match they had against Team Nigma, the battle between former teammates and we knew how that went.

In other news, Valve is still changing and making their battle pass evolve. They brought back the old wagering and gone with the whole stringing together a streak of wins. The new wagering was bad because no matter how long the streak was it didn’t earn as much as betting 50, 100 or 250. The gold wager remains unchanged.

Beyond the Summit announced the “Beyond Epic” two-division tournament that features European, CIS and Chinese teams.
